Setting up a Blogger for CPALead Campaigns
If you can't afford hosting or just want to run a quick campaign to split test and see if it's worth going large, Blogger is the perfect platform to start on. Blogger is limited and isn't the end all web hosting but for a landing page or a quick site to have a gateway on that you then link away from, it's perfect.
Since blogger has been up for so long don't count on getting any premium domain names. Chances are you'll have to add an s here or an extra word into the domain you choose. Just find a name that's related to your niche and you shouldn't have any trouble passing it off as a legitimate site instead of a quick gateway to your survey.
There's no need to go all fancy and have a custom background or theme although if you want to make one or find one they can greatly increase conversions. When I'm using blogger it's usually just for a quick campaign that I'd rather not spend my time on so I just go with the blogger defaults. Spend a few minutes and post up some articles related to your niche or some shows and cheats if you're going either of those routes.
Make your post titles related to whatever content you're going to lock behind the gateway. You don't need to worry so much about SEO because this isn't a site you're going to groom and hold on to forever. I know there's some amazing blogger sites out there (such as Strobist) so I'm not saying you can't use SEO and make a good blogger authority site for your niche, I just don't. If your niche is in copyrighted material, don't bother wasting your time trying to build up your site as it's likely to get banned. Just keep creating accounts and backing up your posts so you can keep your money flowing.
You can't just throw your gateway HTML into the blogger template and expect it to work and there's no plugin for CPALead like there is for Wordpress. What you're going to need to do is create a gadget and add your code into it to get your gateway to pop up. Go into your page layout and then go to page elements. You'll see a basic framework template for your site and next to it the options to add or remove gadgets. Select the option to Add a Gadget.
Find the option to add an HTML/Javascript gadget and select it. This is where you'll want to add in your CPALead gateway code. Add in a title and click save. Now you should see your code in the list of gadgets so drag it anywhere into the outline of your template. Voila! Your gateway will now pop up with whatever you set it to in the CPALead settings.
For blogger you're going to want to have almost no tease time. You want people to come to your site already knowing what they're looking for and just assume they'll be able to get it after they've finished a survey. Sure this won't give you the best conversion rate, but for a quick project this is perfect. Promote your site using whatever quick traffic techniques work for you. Remember, you're not trying to just create backlinks for long term SEO. You want to post in places lots of people are going to see. Go to where you know people will want your content and let lose. Youtube works great for this as do popular forums with good traffic.
